Community, Sport and Leisure Feasibility Study

Our commission was to enable 3RP to assess the feasibility of a new community and leisure development in Gillingham.
Through consultation we established community, stakeholder and strategic need.
Our research provided background intelligence which helped us assess the current sports and leisure market around the Gillingham Leisure Centre and current and future levels of provision.
The condition and provision of the existing facilities was ascertained to inform 3RP if it could be refurbished/re-designed to meet their design brief.
It was ascertained that the current building did not meet current operational standards or the 3RP design brief. Refurbishment would be required to bring it up to operational standards.
Outline costing provided 3RP with both capital and revenue cost estimates for five new facility mix options. The financial detail of the options appraisal assisted 3RP in making the decision to proceed with a detailed feasibility study.
Utilising the information derived in above 3RP made an informed decision to commission us to undertake a feasibility study and develop a project brief for a new facility on the preferred Hardings Lane (six sites within the town were considered for the new Leisure and Community facilities project) site in line with RIBA stages A-C.
Outcome
The feasibility study informed 3RP that the new build route was not affordable and as a result they decided to refurbish the existing facility to bring it up to operational standards.
